My name is Deb and I live in Topeka, Kansas. I am a single mom and a survivor of domestic abuse. I was diagnosed with TMD at the age of 47. I wore a night guard for many years to help protect my teeth from the wear and tear I was inflicting by clenching my teeth at night. I also suffered from ear pain, stuffiness, tinnitus and severe neck pain for more than 10 years. Doctors attributed this to the many blows to my head and a stressful life.
After the tragic death of my father in 1998, I started having severe migraine headaches. The first one I ever experienced landed me in the hospital not knowing what had just happened to me. I had numbness on the left side of my face and slurred speech. I had no control of my left arm and my vision was so blurred I could not drive. The doctors said that I could have possibly had a mini stroke or was suffering from migraine headaches. I was put on many different medications and began to suffer 2 to 3 migraines a month. Some so severe that I could not stop vomiting and had to be admitted to the hospital. For 6 years I continued to take medication and pray that one day they would just go away.
In 2004 my mother died very unexpectedly and I suffered one of the worst migraines I had ever had. I was taken to the hospital and medicated and released. When I got home I collapsed and was unresponsive to emergency technicians. Come to find out I had been over medicated and was near death. It was then that my jaw started locking shut and I could no longer open my mouth to eat or even brush my teeth. The popping and grinding in my jaw was unbearable and embarrassing. I visited my dentist, orthodontist and chiropractor. They all told me that I had TMJ. The chiropractor suggested treatment with acupuncture and my dentist and orthodontist offered to make me another night guard. They both recommended that I see a specialist. I decided that I needed to get to the root of the problem if I wanted to improve the quality of my life.
No one seemed to know of a doctor in my area so I took to the internet. I put all of my symptoms in the search engine and up came Dr. Raman’s website. As I began to read I soon discovered that I was not alone and the majority of the symptoms I was experiencing were related to TMD. The next day I called and made an appointment to see Dr. Raman. After the initial testing, Dr. Raman assured me that he could help me. I was soon fitted with a fixed orthotic on my bottom teeth and within a week or so I began to feel 80% better. I started seeing an Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractor in Topeka and over the next four to five months I remained migraine free and the jaw and ear pain started to decrease.
The next step was to proceed with orthodontics and then to full mouth restoration to stabilize my bite, if that’s what I chose to do. This was a decision that I could not take lightly. I was a single mother and the sole financial provider for my family. I asked myself “How could I afford such a procedure?” While driving home after an appointment I began to pray about this decision and ask God for faith, wisdom and prosperity to complete this journey. As I reflected back on how far I had come, I recalled a comment made to me by my daughter. She said, “Mommy I don’t know what it is about you that’s different, you just look happy”. It was at that point that I decided to put my faith in God and my trust in Dr. Raman and move forward with orthodontics and full mouth restoration. I have to say that I was not too thrilled at the thought of wearing braces at 49 years of age but there was no turning back. Despite all the skeptics, I truly believed that this would improve the quality of my life. I spent the next 12 months in braces and finished one month later with full mouth restoration. I have been migraine free for over a year. The ear, neck and jaw pain has improved so much I am almost pain free. The big bonus is that I have beautiful, straight, white teeth that look natural. I love it when people tell me that I’m getting more beautiful with age. They can’t figure out what is different except that I smile a lot.
I can not begin to thank Dr. Raman and his staff enough for the treatment I received. Everyone was always so kind and patient and made me feel like I was part of a family but most importantly that I was not on this journey alone. Dr. Raman, Amy, Melissa and MC, you guys ROCK !! Such and awesome team with one mission.....To help people feel better, to take someone that is broken and in pain and improve their quality of life. Dr. Raman is so passionate about his work and sharing his expertise through educating others. I thank God for putting Dr. Raman and the Raman Center in my life at a time when I had little hope left. You are all such a blessing to me. THANK YOU .... Deb

MY WIZARD OF OZ - THE GENIUS OF JAWS
The pain in my jaw was awful; I could no longer bear it,
I kept looking and looking for someone to repair it.
Every specialist I saw wanted to get at it with a knife,
My reply was the same, "Not on your life!"
The chronic pain I was in, was unending and deep,
I could no longer eat and I sure couldn't sleep!
Like the Dark Knight had driven his sword thru my head,
I wanted to stop living and take to-my bed.
I was teetering at the edge and ready to fall
When Dave checked the internet and made a cold call,
He pleaded with the voice at the end of the line,
The voice was Amy who seemed genuinely kind.
Amy calmed him and injected him with hope
For this problem, with which we could no longer cope,
Amy seemed to think I had enough cause
To meet with my very own Wizard of Oz.
The Wizard as I know him is Dr. Prabu Raman
Who convinced me my problem was not so uncommon.
He's not the kind of Wizard working behind a curtain,
He's the Genius of Jaws, of this, I am certain!
So the Wizard and his staff applied their magic,
Reversing-my path which had become-quite tragic.
The Wizard, Melissa, and all of the crew
Were a well oiled machine and knew just what to do.
I’m no longer praying to the gods of pharmacology
To slap a band-aid on my problematic physiology.
I no longer wish I could just end it all
Since the Wizard caught me in mid-free fall.
The light at the end of the tunnel is in view
I’m eating and sleeping like I used to do.
Even though there is still work-to be done,
If anyone can heal me, the Wizard Raman's the one!

Neuromuscular Dentistry Treatment Testimonial
I was treated for temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), jaw malocclusion, a constricted upper jaw, and grinding of the teeth. My malocclusion was so bad that I had to swing my lower jaw out of socket in order to be able to chew. It also caused significant grinding of teeth which wore down my bite and contributed to over-closure of the jaw. Also, my upper jaw was too narrow and far back, restricting my tongue space. Worst of all, these three things combined to cause a severe case of TMD with many of its accompanying symptoms and jaw pain. I was examined by an oral surgeon and two orthodontists who all told me that I would need jaw surgery to correct the problems since otherwise my temporomandibular joint would degenerate over the course of my life and my teeth would continue to grind down to almost nothing in the front due to my particular malocclusion, causing large expense and major dental problems over the course of my life. However, I did research and found out that jaw surgery has major risks and often makes patients worse than before (especially for TMJ surgery). Not only that, but the position they move one’s jaw to can potentially be incongruous with their jaw and face muscles, thus not solving the TMD problem or making it worse. Fortunately, in my research I came upon neuromuscular dentistry and found out about Dr. Raman. I had a consultation with Dr. Raman who was able to offer me very conservative, safe, and proven solutions to my problems. His claims to help were backed up by science, expertise, and a success rate that no other TMD treatment can even come close to. Dr. Raman exceeded my expectations. He successfully treated all four of my problems (TMD, jaw malocclusion, a constricted upper jaw, and grinding of the teeth) by a series of neuromuscular phases using specialized technology. I went through the typical neuromuscular TMD treatment phases of a temporary orthotic and a fixed orthotic, but also had my upper jaw brought forward and widened through orthodontic appliances over the course of two years as well. The last phase included porcelain reconstruction of my teeth and fine adjustments using muscle analysis for the most optimal bite. I was also given a special night guard to wear at night to prevent any grinding of the porcelain during sleep. As a result of this treatment, my TMD has completely disappeared, I have much more tongue space, there is no more grinding of my teeth, and my malocclusion is fixed. On top of that, my bite is in its most ideal position, a wonderful perk of this phenomenal treatment. My bite and jaw weren’t just treated for symptoms and disorders, but were fundamentally improved for a lifetime, together with their effect on my muscles and my ttemporomandibular joints. To anyone considering treatment from Dr. Raman, know that he is one of the best and most dedicated neuromuscular dentists in the world and consider yourself fortunate you have found him.

I have been seeing Dr. Raman for nearly three years. I came to him because I had had TMJ, with clicking and cracking jaw and pain, sometimes bad enough that I did not want to eat. I had previously been diagnosed with too large a lower jaw. There were large gaps between my teeth, and in general my teeth were crooked and unattractive. Since the first day of my treatment I have not had any bad pain in my jaw.
Dr. Raman is very thorough in his treatment. He answered all my questions, and he is always just a phone call or an e-mail away.
I am very happy with the looks of my porcelain teeth and am glad to have had this procedure.
The reason that I went with Dr. Raman’s treatment is that he is the only doctor I had seen that seemed genuine, and that he actually cares about this patients. Melissa and Amy both are very knowledgeable and helpful. The Raman Center is first class.
