The major objectives of the Fellowship Program of International College of Cranio Mandibular Orthopedics are to provide recognition of an individual for high level of achievement in the diagnosis and treatment of TMD and for professional efforts to advance the science of the biophysics and physiology of the head and neck.
Requirements: submission of 3 completed and well documented patients who have been treated; Passing a vigorous written examination; Completing 150 hours of continuing education in treatment of TMJ or TMD (on average dentists are required to take 25 hrs of continuing education a year on any subject) or have published articles on the subject in related journals and books, or teaching and lecturing over 150 hours on this subject. What this means to you is that you are receiving care from a dentist who is dedicated themselves to providing you with the best care in the field of TMJ therapy that is possible.
To be nominated for a Fellowship in the Academy of Dentistry International, one must be nominated by other Fellow members.
The qualifications for membership according to the Bylaws of the Academy are:
At least five years active practice as a dentist or in any related area of dentistry; such as teaching, administration, research or government services wherein remuneration is gained from such services.
The nominee must be a graduate of a dental school recognized by the appropriate professional accrediting body.
The nominee must be active in the dental profession and highly esteemed for integrity and character.
The nominee must be approved by the Regent of the region in which the nominee resides and by the membership committee.
This is the 3rd of 4 tiers within this organization.Members achieving this level should have a minimum of 300 total hours of orthodontic education and have begun providing this service to their. The Member should contact an IAO Certified Instructor in their region to present 5 completed orthodontic cases for examination.
Each year the ABDSM will offer a certification examination in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the AADSM. Prerequisite qualifications to sit for the examination include having worked with sleep physicians at accredited sleep centers, letters of recommendation from sleep physicians, and patient case presentations. Currently, there are more than 110 Diplomates of the ABDSM.

(Not the same two who sponsored the applicant earlier) When applying for Fellowship status, the TMJ practitioner must pass rigid written and oral examinations. THESE DENTISTS HAVE EXTENSIVE TRAINING AND CREDENTIALS IN THE FIELD OF TMJ THERAPY
To be a diplomate of American Academy of Pain Management means that this dentist has had other dentists who have worked with him sign a reference form. Then this dentist has passed a vigorous written examination on TMJ therapy and pain management of the head and neck. This means to you that this dentist has great ethical standing within the community, and is very well versed in treatment of TMJ, which means to you that you are receiving help from a highly qualified dentist.
This doctor has demonstrated the highest standards in CE and hands-on experience, spent the immediate past 5 years in treating head, neck, craniofacial pain and TMJ disorders; treated a minimum of 300 head, neck, craniofacial pain and TMJ patients; advanced study and training in the field which consists of successful completion of at least 2 or more academic years of graduate study in an ADA accredited dental school program OR a minimum of 500 hours (250 within the immediate past 5 years) of continuing education courses in the field; sponsorship by two Academy Fellows. Becoming an Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders Disciplines Diplomate is indeed a profound honor to attain. Individuals who become Diplomates have earned this distinction through a rigorous educational, experiential, and testing process. Experts in the field of dental sleep medicine have developed the ACSDD certification curriculum and requirements and have overseen the demanding Diplomate process.
To be eligible to sit for the Certification Exam, a dentist first must:
Be a current Member in good standing of the ACSDD;
Have been in post-graduate clinical practice for a minimum of five (5) years;
Hold valid dental licensure and certify as to liability coverage;
Have completed a minimum of forty-five (45) hours of continuing professional education programs in clinical sleep disorders dentistry over the previous two years, with fifteen (15) hours in that total dedicated solely to Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD);
Have completed a minimum of five (5) hours of observation in an AASM-accredited sleep laboratory over the previous year;
Have completed a minimum of five (5) hours of observation in the office of a sleep physician over the previous year;
Provide one (1) letter of recommendation from a licensed physician with whom the dentist has worked with on the management of one or more patients with sleep disorders;
Present twenty (20) eligible clinical case studies, five (5) of which are extensively narrated and which include a post-treatment PSG;
Have submitted a Certification Portfolio which includes the documents as listed above and other requirements and which has been accepted by the ACSDD Portfolio Review Committee;
Have completed the ACSDD Exam Prep & Exam Refresher / Case Study Seminar sessions.
